Short track speed skating is an ice sport; this winter sport was added to the Winter Olympics in the year of 1988, in the Calgary Olympics as a demonstration sport. They did not start racing for medals until 1992, in which it was held in Albertville, France. Short track is a sport in which you are on a oval shaped track, with a circumference of 111.12 m. Typically you would have between four and six competitors on the ice surface at a time. There is the 500m, 1000m, 1500m, 3000m races. There is also the 5000m relay. Your goal is to skate around the track, at the required distance with the best time.
